Margaret “Peggy” A. Gilbride, 76, passed away on November 20, 2022 at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence surrounded by her loving family. Peggy was born on February 6, 1946 in Queens, NY to the late Edward and Margaret Kenney. She graduated from Mercy College in 1968 and received her master’s degree in vocational rehabilitation counseling from NYU in 1970. She started her career at Bellevue Hospital and retired from the Diocese of Albany. She raised her family in Albany where she was a communicant and active member of Christ the King Church for 40 years. Peggy moved back to Rockland County to be close to her family and recently resided at Brightview Lake Tappan.
Peggy was married to her beloved husband, John J. Gilbride, for 42 years before his death in 2014. She is survived by her daughters Maureen (Daniel) Mears and Peggy Anne (Sean) O’Donnell. Peggy is the cherished grandmother of Daniel J. Mears, Kayleigh G. O’Donnell and Maeve C. O’Donnell. She is also survived by her brother Edward (Brigid) Kenney, and sisters Maureen (Fred) Angiello and Patricia (Frank) Aversano as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Peggy was lovingly called Gigi by her three grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She gave them priceless moments playing cards, swimming in her pool, and vacationing in LBI. She was generous with her time, affection, and Christmas gifts - becoming known as “Gigi Claus”. Peggy greeted everyone with a smile and cherished her relationships with friends and family. She loved sharing a cup of tea, Diet Coke, or an Irish coffee.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Brightview Lake Tappan and United Hospice of Rockland for the care and compassion given to Peggy.
Calling hours for Peggy will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home (113 Lake Road East, Congers, NY) on November 27 from 2-6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on November 28 at 10am at St. Paul’s Church (82 Lake Road West, Congers, NY).
