James A. Miele also known by friends and family as "Chief" of Bardonia, NY died peacefully on January, 18 2021 at the age of 88. He is predeceased by his parents Louis and Anna (Grando) Miele of Nanuet NY, his wife Helen E. Stoddard of 52 years, his brother Louis Miele and brother in law James W Stoddard.
James is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Miele) Graziano of Nanuet, his son, James Jr. and wife Lucy of River Vale, NJ and his three grandsons who he adored Matthew and his wife Rachel , Nicholas, Christopher and sister in law Mary Sullivan Stoddard. Jim also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was born on June 28, 1932 in Nanuet, NY and graduated from Nyack High school in 1952 where he played baseball and basketball. After high school James went into the Army and is a Korean War Veteran. After returning he married his high school sweetheart Helen E. Stoddard in 1956
James retired from Dassault Falcon Jet in Teterboro NJ where he was chief inspector. He spent 69 years at the Nanuet Fire Engine Company where he is a lifetime member. Many of those years in the Fire Police where he held various positions, he was also a member of the Rockland County HazMat team and a past President of the Rockland County Volunteer Firemen’s Association. James was also a member of the American Legion Naurashank Post 794.
James had a passion for airplanes and in his spare time he built models which he enjoyed flying He also enjoyed baking during the holidays and special occasions like birthdays where he would make unique designed cakes and pies for friends and family and everyone enjoyed his apple pies. He also served as a Eucharistic Minister and usher at St. Anthony’s Church in Nanuet.
Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 22th from 3pm to 8pm at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 113 Lake Rd. East, Congers, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday January 23rd at 10am, St. Anthony Parish, Nanuet. Burial to follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. Because of the CoVid 19 Pandemic, the Funeral Home will be adhering to Social Distancing protocols, everyone is required to wear mask though out the visitation.
