Carl H Gustafson

January 27, 1929-January 18, 2020

Carl H. Gustafson, a retired structural engineer and a longtime resident of Congers, NY and recently from New City, NY passed away on January 18, 2020 at Nyack Hospital with his family by his side. Carl (Kalle) was born on January 27, 1929 in the Bronx, NY to the late Carl Ivar Gustafson and Selma Victoria Karlsson.

Carl grew up in the Bronx and was a very active member of VASA, a Swedish Fraternal organization, for most of his life. Carl graduated from Stuyvesant High School and continued his education at Brooklyn Polytech (NYU today) where he graduated with a degree as a structural engineer. Carl’s degree served him well, allowing him to draw the plans and build his dream house in Congers, NY where he lived before moving to Sunrise Assisted Living in New City, NY.

Carl was predeceased by the love of his life Lizzie (Lisa) in 2013 and his granddaughter Victoria Buchanan in 1998. Carl is survived by two daughters: Bodil Buchanan and her husband Edward and Eva Klebanoff and her husband Larry; four grandchildren: Eric Buchanan and his fianceé Alyssa Gianzero, Tyler Buchanan, Zackary Klebanoff and Caroline Klebanoff.

Carl will be remembered for his sparkling blue eyes, his great sense of humor and his love and compassion for his family and friends. He was the best Dad and Morfar in the world! He will be sorely missed. As we say in Swedish “Sov I Ro.”

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, January 23 at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home, 113 Lake Road, Congers NY 10920.
