Dr. Walter C. Dueger of Concord, NH, age 90, passed away peacefully on November 21, 2022 at the Birches after a 5 year period of declining health. Born in North Tonawanda, NY on May 17, 1932 he grew up in Niagara Falls, NY, attended Wesleyan University in CT, and graduated from Cornell University Medical College in New York City in 1958. After internship and a year of residency at Hartford Hospital he spent 2 years in the Heart DIsease Control program in Denver Colorado, followed by 2 years of internal medicine residency at the University Hospital in Portland, Oregon and a year in London, England at the Institute of Cardiology. He then practiced medicine and cardiology in Concord, NH for 30 years.
He married the love of his life, Caroline Keegan, in 1960 and they had 3 wonderful daughters. As a family they enjoyed skiing, hiking (all 4000' peaks in NH), biking, sailing, and travel. Walt and Caroline were married for more than 62 years and together more than 65 years.
They spent many "retirement" years volunteering their medical skills in developing countries. Special favorites were Nepal and Cambodia. During this time, Walt developed a new artistic passion for taking amazing photographs of people from different cultures, which he displayed once at an art show in Concord.
Those who knew Walt well appreciated his love of humor, his gentleness, and his connection to simple pleasures like classical music, good books, family, the outdoors, and fine food.
He was a man who spent his years caring for others' hearts and staying grounded with his feet planted firmly on the earth.
Walt is survived by his wife Caroline, two daughters (Erica Dueger Leal (Jose) of France and Stephanie Dueger Riggan (Dan) of CO), two sisters (Marilyn Dueger Hurlbutt, Deborah Dueger Harter) and two granddaughters (Kaitlyn and Braelyn Riggan). He was predeceased by his second daughter, Jennifer.
Those who wish may make contributions to the charity of their choice. There will be no formal memorial services.
