Robert C. Oakes, 82, died January 21, 2012 at The Birches of Concord after many years with Parkinson’s and dementia.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island he was the son of Frederick and Esther (Clement) Oakes.
He was a graduate of the Naval Academy at Annapolis and served as a Captain in the Marine Corps.
For 33 years he worked as an executive for General Motors in varying capacities both in sales and purchasing. Despite the fact that his career took him around the world, he most enjoyed mowing the lawn, gardening, fishing and enforcing the two minute rule for showers.
He was infinitely kind and generous of spirit.
Survivors include his children with his first wife, Ruthwood Samek; a daughter Linda Oakes, a son Lloyd H. Oakes, a daughter Susan Elizabeth Oakes, who predeceased him and a daughter Camille (Oakes) Gregg. Also surviving him is his second wife, Elizabeth H. Oakes and her children, Gwenyth Field, Victoria Maccagnone and Blake H. Field.
There will be no calling hours.
Interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army; Children’s Hospital Boston or Concord-Merrimack County SPCA.
