Rickey Gerard Newman

On Thursday, June 6th, 2024, Rickey G. Newman peacefully, yet unexpectedly, entered Heaven, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife, Diane Poulin-Newman, of 46 years, a couple for 51 years since Junior High School. He is also survived by his beloved daughter, Tricia Marie Newman, the only child of the happily married couple.

Rickey was born in St. John’s, Newfoundland on November 11th, 1958. He was one of eleven children, son of Gerald Newman and Marie Wiseman. Rickey graduated from Portsmouth High School, Portsmouth, NH in 1977, and then married the love of his life, Diane, one year later on August 26, 1978. Rickey and Diane grew up in Portsmouth and had many businesses together, including a taxi company and a cleaning business. Eventually, Rickey got into Politics, where he found a career he came to love. He had great wisdom, humor, and countless love for this family and friends. Rickey was a Portsmouth City Counselor, then a member of the New Hampshire State Legislature for ten years. It was in that position that he worked to expand the 1983 Crime Victims Rights Law. He was very proud to have also been the one to raise the NH drinking age from 18 years old to 21 years of age. Rickey was one of the youngest state legislators at this time, and had many accomplishments.

Rickey became a Lobbyist 35 years ago, and was very successful. His efforts in passing Charity Gaming in the state of NH made a difference in many lives. He has many other clients and was proud of his work on their behalf. It came natural to him to never quit on many issues he fought for. Rickey was one of a kind!

Important to Rickey was work, friends, and especially family, as well as their time together at their vacation home in Key West, Florida. He called it his “happy place.” We will miss you dearly, Rickey. Love always, Diane and Tricia.

The Celebration of Life for Rickey will be held at: Bennett Funeral Home 209 North Main Street, Concord, NH Saturday, June 15th, 2024 10AM-1PM. A luncheon will follow after the service at Cheers Grille & Bar 17 Depot St #1 Concord, NH 03301 from 1PM-4PM. Sorry, no children at this event
