Richard Alden Bennett, 97, of Holderness, passed away while surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 12, 2024. Born on November 28, 1926, in Providence, RI. He was the son of the late Warren and Jane (McKay) Bennett.
Richard grew up in Holden, MA and Newbury, VT and went on to graduate from Holden High School. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1944. He then attended Northeastern College and graduated with a bachelor’s in Business Administration. He was employed for over 30 years as a Systems Engineer at Raytheon until his retirement. He was an advisor and friend to the Sisters of St. Anne in Lincoln and Arlington, MA for over 40 years. He loved spending time on the Cape gathering with his family and teaching his children and grandchildren how to swim and ski. An avid skier until the age of 92, he traveled around the country to ski, but his favorite was always Cannon Mountain. He was a proud member of the “Silver Streaks” which was a 70+ ski club. He also enjoyed swimming, and sailing around the Caribbean and up the coast of Maine.
He is survived by his son Richard “Mark” Bennett and wife Emma; daughters Lael Smith and husband Mark, Susan Wible, and Wendy Hofland; grandchildren Jessica Hong and husband Alvin, Jared Wible and wife Emily, Alexis Wible, Krystyn Bennett, Kara Hawks and husband Jeff, Brett Hofland, Zachary Hofland, Jacob Hofland, Katherine Smith-Kling and husband James, Jane Ferreira, Susan Smith, Casey Smith; great-grandchildren Sophia Bennett, Kodi Hawks, Riley Kling, Aurora Ferreira. He is predeceased by his wife of 58 years Patricia (Marsden) Bennett, and sister Patricia Cummings.
A funeral service will take place at 11AM on Friday, October 18 at the Chapel of St. Anne located at 18-20 Claremont Ave, Arlington, MA 02476.
