Phil was born on June 1, 1935 in Boston. He was a 1956 graduate of St. John's High School and also has a diploma from the U.S. Chemical Corps School.
He was employed by the NH State Highway Department. Later Phil became the owner of Montgomery Ward Catalog Sales in Concord, and owned and operated Baldwin's Market in Henniker and LaRosa's Family Market on North State Street in Concord.
Phil was a long time member of IHM Church, a Charter Member of Henniker Rotary Club, member of Knights of Columbus Council #112, member and past president of Capital City Rotary Club, and remained a member of the Capital City Sunrise Rotary. He was a recipient of five Paul Harris Awards and Recipient of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International Endowment for World Understanding and Peace. He was also a Veteran of US Army Corps of Engineers.
He was an avid collector of Hot Wheels toys and antiques. He had a passion for reading history and for keeping up with the political agenda. He and Connie traveled across the country and all of Canada four times, camping all the way in their 1988 pop up. Their favorite place to visit was the Cabot Trail on Cape Breton, Nova Scotia.
Phil possessed a beautiful tenor voice and loved listening to music.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Constance LaRosa. His sons Gregory, Mark and Phillip (Chip), daughter Ann and sister Isabel Clegg and her husband Tom of S. Weymouth, MA. Grandchildren, Nick LaRosa, Karen LaRosa, Amanda Emery and two great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Phil was predeceased by his brother Thomas Bernabe of New Orleans, LA and Aunt Katherine Denza of Torrington, CT.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, October 14, 2011 from 4pm-7pm at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, Concord.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 15, 2011 at 11am at St. John’s the Evangelist Church, 72 South Main Street, Concord. Burial will follow at Moore Cemetery in Loudon.
