Born and raised in Troy, Indiana, son of a schoolteacher and a G.E. line worker, Paul spent his summers working on the family farm. He attended Purdue University, earning a degree in forestry. Upon graduation, he joined the Army as a Second Lieutenant, and married the love of his life, Marilyn Siegfried of Lafayette, Indiana.
For Paul and his new bride, life in the Army was an adventure that took them back and forth across the country and to Europe. An artillery officer and paratrooper, Paul served two tours in Germany, using the German he grew up speaking on the farm, which Germans all over the country would say reminded them of their home dialect. He also served tours in Korea and Vietnam; he was awarded two Bronze Stars during that conflict.
After his retirement, he worked in various industries but always found time to serve: From volunteering at a women's shelter to assisting local state police, Paul was always there to lend a hand.
Paul was an officer and a gentleman who put family, God, and country before all else. The patriarch of the Munier family, he was the man family and friends alike turned to when they needed help. The man who handed out advice—"be reasonable, do it the Colonel’s way”—even as he fixed your car and trained your dog and took in your wayward teenagers. The man who showed you how to be brave not only by example, but by being right there when you needed a hero by your side.
Paul leaves his wife Marilyn of 66 years, and daughter Paula Munier Lee and her husband Michael Lee; grandchildren Alexis Munier, Gregory Paul Bergman, and Michael Paul Lee, and great-granddaughters Elektra, Calypso, and Demelza. He also leaves sister- and brother-in-law Susie and Larry Mortsolf of Beavercreek, Ohio, nephew Tony Hollinden of Tell City, Indiana and his wife Rhonda, numerous cousins and nieces and nephews, and other beloved family members.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Colonel’s favorite charity, the Wounded Warriors Project https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/.
A private graveside service will be held later this week. A celebration of life will be planned for a later date when travel is safer and easier for all.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Bennett Funeral Home of Concord NH.
