J. Charles Murray, MD passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on October 3, 2010 at Concord Hospital. Dr. John Charles Murray was born in Bayonne, NJ January 7, 1935. He was a graduate of St. Peters Preparatory and St. Peters College, Jersey City, NJ. He received his medical degree from Seton Hall College of Medicine and Dentistry. He then completed his residency while serving in the Army at Landstuhl Hospital in Germany where he was appointed the Director of the Pulmonary Disease Department. After serving for three years in the Army, J. Charles then completed his pulmonary fellowship at the University of Utah.
In 1969, Dr. Murray moved with his family to Concord, NH and was the first Board Certified Pulmonologists in the state. He was a physician with the Concord Clinic for 30 years. Under his direction Concord Hospital started its first Intensive Care Unit. In addition, he enjoyed his many years as the physician for the Bishop Brady High School Athletic Department.
Upon his retirement J. Charles enjoyed fly-fishing in Montana, reading, vacationing in Southern California and Phoenix, AZ and spending extensive time with his large and loving family.
He was predeceased by his brother, Rev. Joseph A. Murray.
He survived by his wife of 50 years Nancy D. (Gilroy) Murray, daughters Maureen and husband John of Wolfeboro, NH, Katherine and dog Charlie of Oceanside, CA, Patricia and husband Dan of Bozeman, MT, Colleen and husband Scott of San Diego, CA and sons Joseph and wife Lisa of Murrieta, CA and William and wife Suzanne of Seattle, WA, 12 grandchildren and his sister, Georgianna Bigley of Florida.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 4pm-7pm at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, Concord.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010 at 12pm at St. Peter’s Church, 135 N. State Street, Concord.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Bishop Brady High School Tuition Assistance Fund, Concord N.H.
The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
