John C. Fanaras, 97, lifetime resident of Concord passed away on April 11, 2025, at the GVNA Hospice House in Concord, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 15, 1927, in Concord to his late parents Charles and Mary (Kouropoulos) Fanaras. After graduating from Concord High School with the “Class of 1945”, John attended the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy graduating with his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1950.
As a man of deep faith and active community involvement, John was a lifelong member the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, while also serving on its board. He also served on the Board of Directors of First NH Bank and was a member of Bektash Shriners Temple. John served the community of Concord for 60 years as a Registered Pharmacist. After graduating from college, he founded the Fanaras Pharmacy in 1951, which later merged in 1969 with Kenneth Fortier of Fortier’s Pharmacy to form The Prescription Center. A member of the Fanaras family has been in business in the downtown area for over 100 years.
As the cherished patriarch of his family, John is survived by his beloved wife, Irene (Stylianou) Fanaras, with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage together. He is also survived by his two children: his son Charles Fanaras and his wife Kelly of Bow, NH, and his daughter Mary Ann Beliveau and her husband Scott of Falmouth, ME. John was also a loving Papou to his grandchildren; John Fanaras of Boston, MA, Michael Fanaras of Manchester, NH, Athina Fanaras of El Paso, TX, Matthew Beliveau of Malden, MA and Nicholas Beliveau of Boston, MA. He was the uncle to Nick Capetanelis and his husband Roger Smith Capetanelis of Haverhill, MA, Helen Fitzgerald and her husband Tom of East Haven, VT, Dyana Martin and her husband Gary of Hampton Falls, NH, Richard F. Lassonde, III of Greenland, NH and Despina Syphoyiannakis of Rethymno, Crete Greece. In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his two sisters and their husbands: Harriet and Michael Capetanelis and Christine and Richard Lassonde.
Visitation for John will be held on Monday, April 21, 2025, from 9 – 11 AM at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 68 North State Street, Concord, NH. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM at the church at the conclusion of calling hours. Interment to follow at Blossom Hill Cemetery, 207 N State St, Concord, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s memory to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 68 North State Street, Concord, NH 03301.
