Howard Francis Clark, Sr.,102, died peacefully Sept. 16, 2010, at his daughters’ residence in Belmont, NH, surrounded by his loving family, Richard D. & Margaret E.(Clark) Fry II and Grandchildren: Donna A. Fry, Richard D. & Laura Fry III, Steven H. & Tracey Fry and Great Grandchildren: Kristin A. O’Donnell and Brittney M. Fry.
Born March 21,1908 at home 10 Ernest St., Cliftondale Square, Saugus, MA. The son of Walter Scott Clark and Margaret Augusta Power Clark. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Ellison Darling Briggs Clark in 2001, and his loving son Howard Francis Clark, Jr., in 2006. Also was predeceased by three brothers, Walter, Raymond, Arthur, and a sister Edith.
He graduated from Saugus High School in 1926 after graduating went on to Bryant and Stratton School of Business. Later joining the National Guard in Boston, MA. In his early years he was the first employee hired for Sears and Roebuck, also employed by B&M Railroad and Schraffts Candies in Boston, MA. During his life he always said that you should be happy at what you do; having various jobs such as Newspaper, USPS, Grocery and Milkman deliveries. He also worked farming; chickens, dairy and apples. He and his brother Walter worked for the Union Leader in the 1930’s while living in Dover, NH. Howard was an Air Raid Warden during WWII and later a Volunteer Fireman and Cub Scout Leader. He lived for many years in West Newbury, MA working for Sunrise Dairy and owned the West Newbury Spa. Later moving to Salisbury, MA for 10 years and owning a cottage on Paugus Bay. In 1973 retired from Western Electric in North Andover, MA moving his residence to Paugus Bay and buying a winter home in New Port Richey, FL, then in 1978 moving to Florida full time, visiting family during summer months, for 28 years.
He loved Florida, walking, bowling, bingo, the lake/ocean, outdoors, golf, dancing, reading newspapers/books, politics, his orange tree, and all the friends in Florida. He always said “I’ve had a great life.”
Family members also include his daughter-in-law Andrea Clark and Grandchildren William & Laurie (Clark)Wintermyer, Jeffrey Clark, James & Suzanne (Clark) Spak and Great Grandchildren: Christina Wintermyer, Zachary Spak and Katelynn Spak all living in PA. Great Grandchildren: Nicole Fry, Melissa Fry, and Zachary Fry all living in NH.
A memorial service will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Belmont, NH, Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 10:00 am.
