Helen M. L. Wadlegger, 96, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen. Born in North Adams, MA she was the daughter of John Edward and Louise (Gaffney) Brackley. For 40 years she was a first chair for the second violin section for the Berkshire Symphony. She resided in North Adams, MA for 69 years. She was a Den Mother to Boy Scouts of America and mother of two Eagle Scouts. She enjoyed square dancing with the Hairpin Turners and various other square dance clubs for many years. She was active with various charities, most notably the Association for the Blind. She spent thousands of hours doing volunteer work for Concord Hospital, Shaker Village and St. Peter’s Church in Concord. While attending St. Joseph’s High School, she led the first female Debate Team to a unanimous victory. Amongst her other achievements she was considered an accomplished seamstress in her community. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters Association since 1986 and a longtime member of the Rosary Society. Survivors include her grandchildren, Regina Knowlton and her husband Guy of Belmont, and Suzanne King of Plymouth, CA and Roland Wadlegger of Concord; her great grandchildren, John Walsh –Wadlegger of Belmont, Hayden James King of Plymouth, CA, two daughters-in-law, Rose-Marie Wadlegger of Concord and Leslie Stein of Albany, NY and Sandy Powers, her dear friend and caregiver of Penacook. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Wadlegger in 1971; her two sons Robert Wadlegger and Richard Wadlegger; and by her brother Leo Brackley. Calling hours will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010 from 5PM-7PM at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, Concord. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 11am at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 135 N. State Street, Concord. Burial will take place in the spring on May 29, 2010 at 11am at Southview Cemetery in North Adams, MA.
