CONCORD -- Helen M. Sideris, 89, a resident of the Pleasant View Retirement Community, died Thursday January 28, 2010. She was born in 1920 in Haverhill MA , the daughter of Marianthe and George Hagi Mallis. She graduated from Plymouth State College in 1942, and returned in 1944 to join the faculty to prepare seniors for classroom teaching. Two years later she moved on to teach at Marley Elementary School in West Hartford CT. She also taught in New Hampshire schools in New London , Newport and Claremont while completing graduate work at the University of NH during the summers. She resided in Concord and Bow, where she followed a career as a remedial reading specialist, retiring in 1977. While teaching in Bow, she was honored as a nominee for NH Teacher of the Year. She was a life member of the NH Retired Educators Association and the Plymouth State University Alumni Association. As a communicant of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Concord , she served as a teacher and supervisor of the Sunday School, and was a member and officer in the Philoptochos Society, a charitable organization of the church. She was predeceased by her brother, Constantine Mallis, and her sister, Aphrodite (Venus) Perides. Family members include: her husband of 63 years, John Evangelos Sideris; two sons, John Evan Sideris; his wife, Carol (Lambrukos) of Exeter NH ; and Thomas Michael Sideris of Concord NH . Two grandsons: Evan John Sideris of Portsmouth NH ; and Steven John Sideris of Brookline MA . SERVICES: Calling hours at the Bennett Funeral Home in Concord will be held on Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 5-8 p.m with a Trisagion Service at 7pm. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Concord, NH. Father Michael Wilson will officiate. Burial will take place at the family gravesite at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester . In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 68 N. State St. , Concord NH, or to an organization of your choice. The Bennett Funeral Home of Concord is in charge of the arrangements.
