Joe was born on February 17, 1932 to Harold and Thelma Denoncour. Joe grew up in Exeter, New Hampshire and attended public and private schools there. He married Shirley Emery Denoncour and relocated to Concord, New Hampshire where he worked for 40 years in the St. Paul’s School gymnasium.
Joe was a longtime active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles serving as local and state president during his tenure. Joe was an accomplished Ham radio operator and spent many free hours communicating with other “Hams” throughout the United States and around the world. He was an avid jazz fan, enjoying many forms of jazz music, especially the big band sound. Joe was well known for organizing touch football games for the neighborhood kids and for his love of fishing. As Joe’s sight failed him more and more as he aged, he found comfort in listening to his music and much appreciation for NHPR radio, which allowed him to remain current with local and world news and events. Joe also found pleasure in following his favorite professional ball teams and was a staunch fan of the Cleveland Guardians and the New York Giants.
Joe predeceases his wife of 68 years, Shirley Emery Denoncour of Concord NH and his five children, Jeff Denoncour of Eagle River, Alaska, Brian Denoncour and his wife Wanda of Contoocook, NH, Sam Denoncour and his wife Penny of Concord, NH, Kathy Denoncour of Concord, NH, and Susan Denoncour of Otisfield, Maine. Joe also predeceases his 13 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Graveside services and interment will be at the St. Paul’s School cemetery on Thursday November 10, 2022 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial remembrances be made to Future in Sight (formerly the Association for the Blind) at 25 Walker Street Concord, New Hampshire.
The Denoncour family would like to express our gratitude to the staff at the Merrimack County Nursing Home for the care that Joe received there over the past few years of his life, and particularly to the Hospice staff who attended to him in his last months with much kindness, good humor and respect.
