Gary got his Bachelor’s Degree from Southern New Hampshire University in 1969. Upon his graduation, he began his teaching career. In 1972 he received a Master’s Degree from Emmanuel College. Also in 1969, Gary married his wife, Sharon, who was also pursuing a career in teaching.
Gary started his teaching career at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Manchester, NH. In 1971 he joined his wife at Coe-Brown Academy in Northwood, NH where he taught social studies for three years, was Assistant Headmaster and basketball coach. A year after his wife left Coe-Brown Northwood Academy to teach at Hopkinton High School in Hopkinton, NH, Gary left Coe- Brown Academy and taught for one year at Stevens High School in Claremont, NH. In 1972, Gary and Sharon made their home in Contoocook. In 1975 Gary joined the staff at Kearsarge Regional High School in North Sutton, NH. He taught social studies and English, and was very active in the school community where he coached basketball and track and advised the Model United Nations and Model Congress programs among other things. He retired from Kearsarge Regional High School in 2003 and received the honor of being named Faculty Emeritus in 2014. During his tenure at Kearsarge, Gary became an adjunct professor at Southern New Hampshire University and Franklin Pierce University and was awarded adjunct professor of the year in 2001 by Southern New Hampshire University. Despite his 2003 retirement from public school teaching, Gary continued to teach college until 2008 when he fully retired.
Gary had a passion for teaching and working with both young people and adults. He loved his family, sports, traveling (his favorite place was Aruba), and spending time with friends. He was also a friend of Bill W.
Gary is predeceased by his parents Harold Baker and Sybil Baker (Rich); his brothers Harold Baker, Jr. and Gerald Baker, and his sister Charlene Lizotte.
His family members include his wife, Sharon; his daughter, Katryn Friske and her husband, Tarken of Arlington, MA and his granddaughters, Kaeding and Auden; and his sister, Pauline Hornstein of Phoenix, Arizona.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Holy Rosary
Church, 21 Main Street Hooksett, NH, on Saturday June 11 at 11 am. Interment will follow in the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
