Freida Smith

She was born in the Ukraine on May 31, 1937 to German parents Eduard and Lydia Paisker. After living in Ukraine, her family migrated to Russia for her father’s work and then to Germany. In 1955, Freida and three of her siblings were fortunate enough to be able to immigrate together to the United States after getting sponsored. They boarded a US Navy transport ship that took them across the ocean for eleven days. A few months later her fourth sibling came over so they were all together again. After leaving the ship in New York, they were put on a train to New Jersey. That is where she met her late husband, Fred Bordak. They married in 1959 and had three daughters. They proudly became US Citizens together in 1970.

She was a loving wife, doting mother and homemaker. They raised their children in New Jersey, Florida, and then Vermont. After her late husband passed from ALS in 1999, Freida spent the next eight years as a widow living in New Hampshire with her middle daughter until she was blessed enough to find her second love and married Frederick Smith. Together they shared their love of God, food and companionship during their elder years. After Frederick passed in 2019, she moved in with her middle daughter again and then shortly after that, with her youngest daughter and son-in-law who provided the care she needed as her disease progressed.

Freida enjoyed spending her days outside walking the neighborhood with her walking sticks, talking to the neighbors who always took the time to stop and listen to her stories of her childhood back in Russia and Germany. When they stopped seeing her out walking, some would stop by the house and visit with her. She also enjoyed knitting and word finds, but reading her Bible was her biggest passion.

Freida is survived by her brother and wife, Ernst and Helga Paisker who reside in New Jersey; her three daughters Margaret and her husband Matthew Thibeault, Heidi and her husband Tom Wood and Christine and her husband Sean Wescott. She was Oma to her four grandchildren, Chelsea, Mckenzie, Danielle and John.

She also leaves behind her second husband’s sons and their wives that she was so blessed to have in her life. Frederick Jr. and Cheryl Smith, Stephen and Ruth Smith and their adult children Stephanie, Timothy and Jason.

In Lieu of flowers, it was her desire to have expressions of thoughtfulness given to the Missionary Fund at Granite State Baptist Church, Concord NH.

Family and friends are invited to attend the graveside service December 5th at 10:00am Floral Park Cemetery, 30 Barnstead Rd. Pittsfield NH. A Memorial Funeral Service will be held after burial at 11:00am at Granite State Baptist Church, 236 Sheep Davis Rd. Concord, NH. A reception and collation to follow in the Fellowship Hall.
