Edward William Mueskes of Newburyport, Mass., died peacefully May 25, 2023 at Avita of Newburyport. He was 90 years old. Born on April 27, 1933, in Manchester, N.H., to the late Eugene and Anna Mueskes, he was raised in Manchester, N.H., graduated from West High School, class of 1950, and St. Anselm College, class of 1954.
Ed served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1954-56. He received his Master of Industrial Engineering from Northeastern University in 1961. His career in the apparel industry spanned five decades, during which time he held various executive positions at White Stag, Mighty-Mac, Timberland and Patchington.
Ed was a resident of Portland, Oregon, from 1958 to 1962, Beverly, Mass., from 1962 until 1967, Topsfield, Mass., from 1967 until 1989, Clearwater, Fla., from 1989 until 2012, and a resident of Newburyport since 2012.
He enjoyed travelling, reading, playing horseshoes, pool, ping pong, card games, drinking perfect V.O Manhattans and spending time with his four children and their families. He was the devoted husband of 57 years to the late Virginia Ruth (Plamondon) Mueskes.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses: Ed and Joan Mueskes of Methuen Mass., Barbara and Mark Fredrickson of Topsfield, Mass., MaryAnn and Dennis Travers of Hopkinton, N.H., and Bill and Suzanne Mueskes of Georgetown, Mass. Ed is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren: Rick and Maira Fredrickson, Bianca, Daniel and Julianna; Matthew and Jessica Mueskes, Jonathan and Anaya; Brian and Andrea Mueskes, Colin and Charli Rose; Amy and Jason Allen, Thomas and Samuel; Mike and Jill Fredrickson, Vivian, Lucy and Charlie; Bobby and Michela Fredrickson, May and Grace; Dennis and Britni Travers and family; Amber and Chris Mattie, Caden and Ella; Andrew and Laura Mueskes; Ashley and Luke Somers; and Emily Mueskes and her fiancé Frederik Milling.
Ed was a brother to the late Genie Welch and her late husband Floyd of Manchester, N.H., the late Ted Mueskes and his late wife Joy of Pittsburgh, Pa., the late Anne Holsapple and her late husband Floyd of Aurora, Colo., and Mary Dubuque and her late husband Ray of Southington, Conn. He was brother-in law to the late William Plamondon and his late wife Rita, the late Robert Plamondon and his late wife Irene, and the late Barbara Solloway and her late husband John of Bedford, N.H. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
There are no calling hours. Services will be private. He will be interred at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at the convenience of the family.
