CONCORD-Dwight D. Dow Jr., 76, of Concord, passed away Friday, May 27 at the Pleasant View Center. He was born in Laconia on November 3, 1939 the son of Dwight Sr. and Evelyn (Arnold) Dow. Dwight graduated from Laconia High School in 1958 and entered the US Airforce in 1960. He was discharged from headquarters strategic air command in Omaha Nebraska in 1964. After leaving the service he spent 35 years working in management positions at Steenbeke & Sons Lumber and Building material business and retired at age 68.
Dwight was an avid sports fan, especially of the Boston Red Sox, and possessed a large sports memorabilia collection. He loved music all his life especially the Blues and Country. Dwight always enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, and fishing and spent a lifetime reading about and observing birds in the wild and could identify many by sight and sound. He was a longtime member of the American Legion Post 31 in Penacook and belonged to the Wesley United Methodist Church in Concord for many years.
He will be missed greatly by his children, grandchildren and great -grandchildren he held so close to his heart.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carlene (Gray) Dow and a son Steve Dahood.
His family members include his daughters, Linda and her husband Bob Bosa, Sandy and her husband Mike Muller; his sons, Scott and his wife Vallerie Dow, Steve and his wife Paula Dow, Jim and his wife Jen Hoyt, Tim and his wife Christina Dow, John Dahood, Chris Dow, Jim and his wife Jodi Dow and daughter in law, Heidi Dahood; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A calling hour held at Bennett Funeral Home, 3 Church St. Concord will be Friday June 3 at 10 a.m. A Celebration of Dwight’s Life will be held at Bennett Funeral Home Friday, June 3 at 11 a.m. Urn burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Concord.
Memorial contributions may be made in Dwight’s name to the Payson Cancer Center at Concord Hospital, 250 Pleasant St. Concord.
