Doug was born February 14, 1965 in Derry, New Hampshire. He grew up in Derry and later moved to Londonderry, graduating from Londonderry High School in 1983 and the University of New Hampshire in 1988 with a B.S. in business administration. He was a distinguished brother of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity and helped to build and manage their house on campus, even after graduation.
Doug was blessed with a sharp mind that he put to good use in his personal and professional endeavors. His career began as a retail store manager at RadioShack, before he became an IT project manager for Sybase, a software company now part of SAP. He found a real professional passion in real estate, launching Windhill Real Estate in 2005. He was a property manager in the later years of his career, most recently as the Director of Commercial Property Managment for Brady Sullivan Properties. He loved leaving any room or building he entered better than he found it.
Doug was famously meticulous and knew his way around an Excel spreadsheet better than most. He lent this skillset to others as the treasurer of Scots’ Charitable Society, which awards financial aid to students of Scottish descent; and at the Deerfield Community Church in Deerfield, NH where he helped lead the funding and construction of the church’s parish hall, which is still in use today.
Doug’s happiest moments were spent laughing with his family and friends, watching Star Trek or the New England Patriots, or driving a convertible (especially a Miata) with a stick shift down rolling back roads in New Hampshire, Maine, and Vermont.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Louise Kilgore. He is survived by his wife, Lucy Lu Kilgore of Concord, NH; father and stepmother John and Gail Kilgore of Monroe, NC; brother Scott Christopher Kilgore; children Conor, Piper, and Sydney Kilgore and their mother, Kimberly Stoddard; stepdaughter Menglu Cai and her fiancé, David Dainis; and nephews Taylor and Julian Kilgore.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Haeseong Park and her team at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA for their care; and the hospice team at Granite VNA in Concord, NH for helping to see Doug peacefully through the end of life.
A memorial service will take place at South Congregational Church (27 Pleasant St, Concord, NH 03301) on September 23, 2023 at 10:30am, with reception to follow. A private burial will be held for the family.
Donations can be made in Doug’s memory to Scots’ Charitable Society, Fellowship Housing Opportunities, or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
