Cynthia Bourn of Concord, NH died at Concord Hospital on September 28, 2018. Cynthia was born in Torrington, CT on March 18, 1941, the daughter of Alger Stedman and Eldora (Burpee) Bourn. She graduated from Concord High School in the Class of 1959, Westbrook Junior College in Portland, ME in 1961 and Keene State College in 1964. She was one of the first two people to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Keene after it expanded its curriculum to offer BS degrees.
Cynthia, at the age of 11, was diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and that diagnosis and its related health problems colored her entire life. Even with various physical challenges, she was able to become an accomplished seamstress and loved to make doll clothes. She won awards for outfits she made for American Girl dolls and even sold a few outfits upon special request. She became an accomplished needle worker as well as a seamstress and many of her works graced her walls wherever she lived.
Cynthia became “Aunt ‘Tint” to nephews Benjamin, Parker, Eric and Michael. She would have loved it if one of them had been a girl who loved playing with dolls but she satisfied herself with having them play with GI Joe and his various outfits. She oversaw many finger painting sessions on tables spread with newspapers and little boys dressed in painting smocks making a mess. She read to them endlessly.
Cynthia was 50 plus year member of South Congregational Church in Concord and oversaw the nursery on Sunday mornings for many years. She was a member of Genesis Circle at South Church.
Cynthia is predeceased by her parents, Alger and Eldora Bourn. She is survived by her brother Frank D. Bourn and his wife Andrea of Meredith, NH and her sister Elizabeth “Betsey” Bourn Morse and her husband John of Phippsburg, ME. She is also survived by her nephews Eric A. (Alison) Bourn of Somersworth, NH, Michael G. (Meghan) Bourn of Teuksbury, MA, Benjamin M. (Deborah) Morse of Brunswick, ME and Parker J. (Alison Wade) Morse of Wellesley, MA.
There will be a Graveside service at Blossom Hill Cemetery in Concord at 1:00 PM on Wednesday October 3, 2018 at 1:00pm. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at https://www.BennettFuneral.com for the Bourn family.
