Barbara Jean Carlson

Barbara J. Carlson, 81, passed away of failing health Thursday, October 8th at Concord Hospital surrounded by family. She was born July 20, 1934 in Hartford, CT to Raymond & Charlotte Dow. Barbara had a kind and caring soul and was known for her infectious smile and laughter that was said to be “heard miles away.” She loved time with family and friends the most, but also possessed the joy of cooking, baking, entertaining guests and socializing. She worked over 35 years for the state of NH DOT in Concord, NH as an account technician and office manager. She also worked many years as a part-time secretary for Haven Heritage Heights in Concord, NH. She is predeceased by both of her parents as well 2 sisters, Elizabeth N. Dow & Priscilla Gilbert. She is survived by 1 sister, Virginia M. Dow of Concord, NH; Daughter, Brenda J. West & husband James of Concord, NH; 2 Grandchildren, Amy L. West of Loudon, NH & Brian J. West and wife Cassie of Loudon, NH; 7 Great Grandchildren as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will held Friday, October 16th from 11am-1pm followed by a memorial service at 1pm at Bennett Funeral Home on 209 North Main Street, Concord, NH 03301. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harris Hill Center, 20 Maitland Street, Concord, NH 03301.
