Dr. William H. McCoy, DDS, age 99, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, February 13, 2015, under the loving care of his family. He was born in Jelloway, Ohio (Knox County) on June 15, 1915 to the late William Donley and Grace Darling Rogers McCoy.
A proud Veteran of the United States Navy, Dr. McCoy began his military career with the Army. While serving with the US Army, they provided him with the schooling and training he needed. Then later he went to serve with the United States Navy as a Dentist. His education began with earning a BS degree from Olivet University. From there he started his education in Dentistry at the Ohio University, and went on to complete his degree at The Ohio State College of Dentistry. Dr. McCoy began his career in private practice and then went on to teach at The Ohio State University, College of Dentistry as a University Professor, before retiring.
It was while they were both attending OSU, that he met his loving wife of 69 years, June. And together they had a loving family. Their children include: Sherry McCoy, Randy (Dawn) McCoy, Bill McCoy, Wendy (Donnie) McGeehan, Les (Nancy) McCoy and Marcia McCoy. He is survived by 10 grandchildren Nicole, Brandie, Tina (Mike), Nathan (Jessica), Jennifer (Brian) Ryan (Tiffany), Scott, Patience (Eric) Koby and Kory; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; many nieces and nephews and their families.
Bill was an avid Ohio State Fan and enjoyed being outdoors. He was a loving husband, dad and grandpa, and will be greatly missed by his family. The family would like to thank Becky Beaver for her devoted care.
His life will be honored with a private funeral and interment service. The U.S. Navy will be present for military honors. Arrangements have been entrusted to Schoedinger Worthington Chapel.
