Heaven welcomed William Raymond Hunsaker on September 26, 2014 after a long battle with Lymphoma. Bill was born in Ironton, Ohio in 1949 and as a young boy, moved to Dayton, where his father became V.P. of Dayton Malleable Iron. Attending Fairmont West High School, Bill was V.P. of the Chess and Bridge Club, and active in Math, Science, and Chemistry Clubs. In his spare time, he pursued his most beloved sport of Spelunking.
Bill studied at Georgia Tech University, The Ohio State University, there receiving a Bachelor's of Science, and Bowling Green University where he received a Masters of Science. Post graduate studies continued at Bowling Green, as he presented and taught for his Doctorate, but was forced to terminate at final orals due to critical health issues.
During Bill's respected career, he was a scientist/chemist at the University of Illinois, The Ohio State University, and the Amoco Corporation in Chicago. Research included DNA for cancer, Ecoli, and vitamin A and D derivatives. Bill was noted for a published article in the Canadian Journal of Medicine in 1978 and received a patent in 1985 for his development in creating Zeaxanthin. During the past fifteen years, Bill was honored to teach at the Genoa Christian Academy and Columbus State University, served part time for Schoedinger Funeral Home, and as a chemist, proudly served the State of Ohio Commerce Department.
Surviving Bill is his loving wife of 36 years, Victoria Lynn (Brown) and children, Meredith Lynn and Philip Raymond. Immediate family survivors are parents, Oral and Jean Hunsaker of Dayton; sister, Marilyn (Hunsaker) Wightman and husband Greg of Santa Fe, New Mexico; brother, Thomas Hunsaker and wife Terry of Dayton; and brother, Dr. Robert Hunsaker and wife Scarlett of Miami, Florida. Also survived by marriage are sister-in-laws, Elaine Gerrish of Dayton and Sharon Abrams of Grove City. Many beloved nieces and nephews survived by Bill.
Bill Hunsaker was a long standing member of Calvary Bible Baptist Church, Westerville, where he ministered as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon, Tape/Sound Ministry, Children's and Adult Choirs. Living in Chicago for 13 years, he served as Deacon, Awana Leader, Singles Ministry Leader, VBS, and Choir. Bill also was member of the National Speleological Society for many years and a fundraiser for cancer research.
Friends may pay their respects at Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Road, from 5-8 PM Tuesday, September 30, 2014. A funeral service will be held 10 AM, Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Calvary Bible Baptist Church, 119 N. Cleveland Avenue, Westerville. A graveside service will be held Wednesday at 4 PM at Evergreen Cemetery in West Carrollton. It was after a life of physical struggling that a soldier was welcomed home.
