Wilbur Cyrus Lawrence, age 92, passed away at Kobacker House on September 27, 2024, after a short battle with cancer. Born to Cyrus R. and Mary L (Melick) Lawrence on February 7, 1932, Wilbur (Bill) was a life-long resident of Ohio, having graduated from Grandview Heights High School in 1950, attending Ohio University and graduating from The Ohio State University with a degree in business. A veteran of the United States Air Force, Bill served at Iwo Jima and upon his return he began his career in banking with National City Bank, when it was still called BankOhio. An avid Buckeye fan, Bill served as an usher at Ohio Stadium for over 50 years, never missed a home game, and was recognized on the field of the Horseshoe for his length of service. He had his lucky buckeye in his pocket for every game and he often bragged about being at the "Snow Bowl" in 1950 where TTUN beat us 9-3 without achieving any first downs.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 64 years, Saundra Mae (Zehner). He is survived by his children Janis (Edward) Baldwin and James (Laura) Lawrence, as well as four grandchildren, Megan and Jack Baldwin and Daniel (Catie) and Nathan Lawrence.
His family, and extended family, were the loves of his life and he cherished his lifelong friendships from Grandview Heights High School.
