Wesley Lee Welty was born on June 13, 1929 in Pandora, Ohio on the family farm to the parents of Daniel Lee Welty and Faery Manilla Welty (Balmer); and died on April 15, 2019, in Westerville, Ohio at the age of 89 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Evan, Gary, Frank, Tom, Art and sisters, Elaine, Janice and Sandra. Wes is survived by his wife Jeane; stepson Kent (Lisa) Kline, daughters, Kimberly Welty and Kristi Welty; son Kyle (Amy) Welty; sister-in-law's Bonnie Welty and Zona Welty; grandchildren, Jessica Kline, Angela (Tim) Claubaugh, Tonia (Chris) Noe, Lewk Varnish, Grace Welty and 8 great-grandchildren.
Wes graduated Pandora High School, where he lettered in Football and Basketball. After graduation, he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Yarnell, a Navy Destroyer, where the ship saw action during the Korean War. After leaving the Navy he moved back to Ohio, where he began his career as a Carpenter.
Once back in Ohio he met Jeane Smith and they were married on September 16, 1961. They lived and raised their four kids, in the house that Wes built in Risingsun, Ohio. After all the kids left home, they moved to Bowling Green, Ohio where Wes fixed up an older house for them to live in. In 2004, they moved to Westerville, Ohio to be closer to their kids.
While in Westerville they became members of Westerville Community United Church of Christ. Wes was active at Risingsun's United Methodist Church, a member of the Lions Club International, coached little league and was a den leader in the cubs scouts. He enjoyed sports, mostly the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns and the Buckeyes; playing cards, reading, shooting pool, building things in his workshop and spending time with family.
There will be a visitation and service for friends and family at the funeral home on Friday, April 19, 2019 starting at 12:00 noon.
