A funeral service for Wayne Rose, age 76, of Newark, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6, at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home with Pastor Walter Bruah officiating. Burial will take place in Fredonia Cemetery.
Wayne passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at his home. He was born February 17, 1937 in Norfolk, Virginia to the late Woodrow O. and Georgia (Roberts) Rose.
Wayne was a 1955 graduate of Alexandria High School. He was the former owner of Moore Pizza in Granville and had also been employed as a meat cutter with Al’s Meat Market for many years as well as a mail bundler with Morrow Mackey.
An avid outdoorsman, Wayne enjoyed fishing with his children and grandchildren. He was an Ohio State fan and enjoyed bowling, playing cards and going to casinos, especially Wheeling Downs.
He is survived by his children, Rodney Rose of Newark, Billy (Suzan) Johnson of Frazeysburg, Mary Penrose of Newark, B.J. Ellighet of Cleveland and Tim Gross of New Lexington; grandchildren, Jessie Damron, Cassie Johnson and numerous other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gloria (Clyde) Winegardner, Sandy (Jack) Mossman and Shirley (Buster) Robinson, all of Newark, and Kathy Merrill of Fredonia; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and best friends, Don and Patty Block.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jeannette Irene (Mossman) Rose, on October 11, 2008; a grandson, Noah Gross; and two brothers, Steven and Thomas Rose.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, April 5, at the funeral home, 179 Granville Street, Newark.
