It is hard to capture the essence of a person in the lines of an obituary. Sure you can give the name: Walter Joseph Stafa, the dates: 1936-2023, even the family: Wife; Norma, Sons; Thomas (Beth), James (Molly) and Phil (Angela), Grandkids: Emily, Zyg, Sallie, Israel, Isabella, Braylon, Jaylynn, but those are just the facts. Who he was is the important part. Husband, Father, Grandfather, Friend, Coworker. He was driven by an inquisitive mind, one that sought out knowledge, but rarely forgot it when found. His superpower was fixing things, be it a mainframe computer (his career), an old mechanical cash register (a hobby) or the electromechanical parts that made an old streetcar run. Though able to speak at length about many subjects, his Love was Railway History. In the end, what we will miss is his laughter, his wit, his wisdom, his advice and his humanity.
Service will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023 at 3:00pm at Schoedinger North, 5554 Karl Road with Visitation will follow until 6:00pm. At a later time, Walt will be laid to rest with his parents at All Saints Polish National Cemetery.
