Tyler Christian Shively, 38, passed away suddenly in Los Angeles, California, on December 21, 2023. A native of Upper Arlington, Ohio, he had been residing in California for several years prior to his death.
On October 19, 1985, Tyler was joyfully welcomed into the world by his parents Jill and Brian, and he was joined within months by his “almost-twin” sister Joy. Younger siblings Jenna, Thomas, and Julianne completed Tyler’s family at home, and he grew up enveloped in the love of a large extended family.
With earnest curiosity and boundless creativity, Tyler pursued numerous interests as he grew, including many team sports, photography, fiber arts, and community service.
Tyler graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 2004 and subsequently chose to serve in the United States Army. He was deployed for a combat tour in 2007-2008 and was stationed in Kirkuk, Iraq, where he endured disabling injuries. Following his honorable discharge from the military, Tyler pursued healing, and he appreciated life on the Pacific coast while keeping in touch with his loved ones at home.
Those who were privileged to know Tyler may recall him quietly helping and serving others. At six-and-a-half feet tall, he was known as a “gentle giant” who tenderly cared for every animal in his life.
Tyler will be most deeply missed by his mother, Jill Fisher (Joseph) Tribble; his father, Brian Lee Shively (James Jinhong); siblings Joy (David) Givens, Jenna (Kate) Shively, Thomas “Toby” Shively, and Julianne Shively; nephews and nieces Joshua Givens, Samuel Givens, Grace Givens, Rose Givens, and Christopher Shively; grandparents Dolores and Bill Shively; and a large, multigenerational extended family.
Tyler has been reunited in Heaven with his beloved grandparents, Janet and Del Fisher; his cousin, Mary Rose Fisher; and several good friends from the U.S. Army.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at First Community Church-South Campus, 1320 Cambridge Boulevard, Columbus, Ohio 43212.
Interment to follow at Union Cemetery.
