Thomas C. Green, age 82, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. Born on April 12, 1943, in Meadville, Pennsylvania, he was the beloved son of the late Charles and Frances (Guenther) Green.
Tom met the love of his life, Lynn Lockwood Green, while attending Youngstown State University. Their love story began in the classroom and flourished into a beautiful marriage in 1968. Together, they moved to Columbus, Ohio, where Tom began his career at Columbia Gas. His deep passion for civil service and government relations inspired him to establish the company’s very first government relations team—a legacy that still endures today.
Tom’s journey in advocacy and public affairs continued with roles at Kent McGough & Associates and later as Vice President of Government Relations for AT&T, where he led efforts on state and federal issues across the nation. In 1990, driven by vision and entrepreneurial spirit, he founded his own independent lobbying firm, Thomas C. Green & Associates. He retired in 2012 after an extraordinary 44-year career doing work he genuinely loved and was called to do.
In retirement, Tom and Lynn created a haven at Buckeye Lake—their dream home. There, they embraced life’s simple pleasures: sunrises, sunsets, and long conversations with loved ones from their front porch rocking chairs. Their home was always full of warmth, laughter, and the sound of cherished memories in the making.
Tom was known far and wide, not only for his distinguished career but for how he carried himself—with honesty, generosity, wit, and grace. He was a man of deep character, a mentor to many, and a friend to all. To know Tom was to admire him. To work with him was to learn from him. And to love him was easy.
In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lynn. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Kristen (Chip) Tell; grandchildren, Alex Brinkman (Josh Nickles) and Jack Brinkman; step-grandchildren, Piper and Charlie Tell; siblings, Joanne (Bob) Dobson, Patty (Dave) Machingo, and Mary Ellen (Dale) Rhinehart; and many more dear family members, friends, and colleagues who were touched by his kindness and spirit.
The family will receive friends from 5–8 PM on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at Schoedinger Midtown, 229 E. State Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Church of St. Edward the Confessor, 785 Newark Granville Road, Granville, Ohio 43023. A reception celebrating Tom’s life will follow immediately at The Granville Inn, 314 East Broadway, Granville, OH 43023.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Tom’s name to the Ohio Lobbying Association Foundation, which provides academic scholarships to Ohio college students pursuing studies in public policy. As a devoted mentor and champion of young professionals in the government relations field, this cause was close to Tom’s heart and continues the legacy he so beautifully built.
