Sue Ann Williams was born November 30, 1942, in St. Charles, Missouri, to Kenneth McCoy Williams and Nola Smith Williams. Sue attended Dayton Public Schools, graduating from Colonel White High School in 1960 and from Bowling Green State University in 1964.
Sue married James Kuehn on June 13, 1964, at Grace Methodist Church in Dayton. She began her teaching career as an elementary teacher in Washington Court House for three years. In 1967 Jim and Sue moved to Upper Arlington, Ohio, and started their family shortly thereafter. Sue spent the next 25 years raising her three children, traveling to favorite spots like Sanibel Island, Torch Lake in Michigan, and spending time with family in Dayton and Sabina, Ohio. Sue also cultivated a wealth of friendships during this time, from the Sheltons, Annises, Greens and Kerns on Darcann Drive to the “Empty Nesters” and many more.
In 1984 Sue returned to teaching as a special education tutor at Upper Arlington High School until 2000. In 2002 Sue became a grandmother and for the next 21 years enriched the lives of her five grandchildren. In their words, Grandma Sue was the best conversationalist and question asker—and a great listener who was always genuinely interested in all her grandchildren’s tales. From games of rummy and movie watching (Princess Diaries was a favorite), to pizza parties on Sundays, countless sleepovers and trips to Hilton Head, Duck, Michigan, and Ocean Isle Beach, Sue cherished her time with her grandchildren—right up to the last cookie she shared with youngest granddaughter Leah.
In February 2022 Sue’s beloved and special husband Jim passed away. She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Don Williams and stepmother Virginia Lee Williams.
Sue’s family and friends will all miss her beautiful smile, positive attitude, delightful sense of humor, generosity and warm affection. Left to mourn her passing are her sons, Scott (Tanya) of Hilliard and Todd (Amber) of Upper Arlington, and daughter Beth (Brian) O’Neill of Plain City, and grandchildren Riley, Jillian and Grant Kuehn and Will and Leah O’Neill as well as brother Stan (Kim) Laight, brothers-in-law John (Barbara) Kuehn and Tom (Linda) Kuehn, and many adoring nephews and nieces.
Calling hours will be Sunday, November 26, from 1pm-3pm at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Road, Upper Arlington, Ohio. The funeral service will be Monday, November 27, at 10am at Upper Arlington Lutheran Church’s 2300 Lytham Road location. Burial will follow at the Sabina Cemetery in Sabina, Ohio. In lieu of flowers and in honor of granddaughter Jillian’s 10th dia-versary with Type 1 Diabetes, memorial donations can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, www.JDRF.org.
