Sue Ann Carpenter

Sue Ann Carpenter, age 69, longtime resident of Clintonville, passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022. Sue was a diverse individual and had many interests. She was a Graduate of Upper Arlington High School and attended Miami University and The Ohio State University. Sue was the Upper Arlington Girls Singles Tennis champion in 1966 and was a member of the Columbus Girls Junior Davis team. She owned one of the first women-owned contracting companies in Columbus during the 1980s and worked and retired from the City of Columbus, Housing Inspector’s office. Sue was one of the four top officers at AFSCME Local 1632 for 20 years and a member of Columbus Citywide Quality of Working Life. She was very active in the City of Columbus Code Enforcement Division and the statewide Bed Bug Awareness program. Sue advocated for women, played for the Columbus Women’s football team the Columbus Pacesetters, and she loved her Honda motorcycle. She was proud of the scars she received while riding it as well as working on it. Sue was always happy to help, she was the person you called when you needed a hand, she always came with tools in hand. Sue loved her family, and was the keeper of her family history, culture, and photographs back to the 19th century. Sue will be deeply missed, there is a special place in the hearts of family and friends for Sue. She was preceded in death by her parents, Errett LaRue Carpenter Jr. and Edna Lausmen Carpenter. She is survived by brothers, Errett “Fred” L. (Susan Fuste) Carpenter, James C. (Mary Jane McDowell) Carpenter; sister, Lisa K. (Cyrus Karoon) Carpenter; nieces, Amy Carpenter, Jodi (Ryan) O’Sullivan, Wendy (Michael) Levine, Katy Carpenter, Elizabeth Carpenter, Carolyn Carpenter, Abigail (Andrew) Cochran, and Aryanna Karoon; and many other extended family members and dear friends. A memorial service will be held at 4 P.M. Thursday, January 19, 2023 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST, 1740 Zollinger Rd.
