Sharon Lee Newkirk, age 83, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024 at home. She was born on January 27, 1941 in New Castle, Indiana to Gerald H. and Geraldine E. (Hendrix) Gant. Sharon graduated from Suttons Bay High School in Traverse City, Michigan before moving to Columbus, Ohio. She was a member of St. Mark’s United Methodist Church where she was the Sunday School Superintendent. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, PTA and Westland High School Band Boosters. She loved music and played piano well for many years. Sharon worked for Ohio Bell, Lazarus Downtown and Grove City Christian Academy as a teacher's aide. Sharon met the love of her life at Lazarus Downtown where she worked. Her first date with Tom was at Martini’s which is now known as Byrne’s Pub on West 3rd Ave. It was meant to be as they had been married for 50 years until his passing in June of 2012. Sharon was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She always instinctively, protected and cared for others, especially those very close to her. She was the life of the party, whether it was a Buckeye Tailgate or her grandchild’s 1st birthday. Her sense of humor was unmatched and her warm gentle spirit was the best part of her being. She will be missed greatly but will live in the hearts of those she touched. Survived by sons, Gerald T. (Audra) Newkirk, James E. Newkirk, and #3 son, Ralph F. Moore and family; grandchildren, Daniel J. Newkirk, Zachary E. Newkirk, Kaitlyn P. (Jonathan) Sallee, Preston Michael Thomas Newkirk, and Spencer Gerald Newkirk; great grandchildren, Korie Randall and Theodore Newkirk; many nieces, nephews, and dear cousins; as well as good neighbors and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Thomas Newkirk; and sister, Marsha Keefer. The family will receive friends from 3-7:00 pm on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Advantage Funeral and Cremation Services by Schoedinger Hilltop, 3030 W. Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43204. Private graveside at Wesley Cemetery in Hilliard, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or Western Reserve Hospice.
