Sandra Jean Bukey Turner, daughter of George and Mabel Bukey, sister of Daniel (Mary Lynn) Bukey, was born on December 20, 1941, and passed away from a stroke on July 2, 2022. Sandy was married to James Foster Turner for 51 years.
Sandy was mother to Daniel (Kristin) Turner and Jamie Turner. Grandmother to Ryland Michael Turner, Landyn John Turner, Peyton Russell Turner, Sacha Marie Hannah Dufrenot and Karl Marie Edward Dufrenot. Beloved cousin to Jackie (Robert) Hayes, Sharon (Mike) Carter, Darrell (Maggie) Castle, Diane (Larry) Yoakum, Robert (Sandy) Armour, Lou Neer, Michael (Alice) Neer, Ed (Derri) Eberhard and Ken (Marlene) Eberhard. Supportive Aunt to Michelle (Marc) Stewart, Jill (Matt) Welch, David (Sara) Turner, Mike Turner, Molly (Greg) Balla, Steve (Sherril) Turner, Jeff (Christine) Turner, and Tom (Daniela) Turner. She was a treasured friend to many.
Sandy graduated from West High School in 1959. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology from The Ohio State University.
Sandy had four careers. Beginning in High School, she worked for four pediatric allergists at Midwest Allergy, alongside her dear mother, Mabel.
Soon after her children were born, she became a full-time mother and an active community volunteer. She served as PTO President, Co-Chair of Zoofari, President of Wednesday Literary Club, Deacon and Governing Board member of First Community Church. She was an active member of Guild V and Couples Circle #47. For close to 50 years, she was the host for OSU Homecoming gatherings for Jim’s Beta Theta Pi fraternity brothers. Sandy was honored for her service to the community as an Upper Arlington Rotary Club Northwest Woman of the Year.
After her children graduated high school, she went to work as the Administrative Assistant to Revs. Barbara Cunningham Jim Long and Deborah Lindsey in the Pastoral Care Department of First Community Church. In that role, she was able to comfort many church members by way of her gentle and caring personality. She retired from the church after 17 years of service.
She then entered her fourth career as a dedicated grandmother and an avid reader. She gave each of her grandchildren books every holiday and birthday. She encouraged all of them in their endeavors and loved them endlessly. In every stage of her life, she followed her bliss. Sandy constantly cared for her beloved husband, Jim, who always knew that he married above himself.
People will remember Sandy as someone who never raised her voice and always provided comfort. She had an unexpected sense of humor and delivered gentle quips with perfect timing. She had an extensive vocabulary and could beat almost anyone at Scrabble. She was a fan of non-fiction and had an amazing recall of historic events and persons. The many treasured friends and family members who loved Sandy will hold onto her faithful, loyal, and loving spirit forever.
A Celebration of her Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday September 16th in the Sanctuary of First Community North, 3777 Dublin Road, Dr. Glen Miles officiating. The family will join with friends immediately following the Celebration in Grace Hall. Those who wish are invited contribute to the First Community Church Foundation, 1320 Cambridge Blvd., Columbus OH 43212, or a charity of choice, in her memory.
