Sammons, Sandra L, age 80 of Columbus, more recently from Dayton, passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at First Community Village in Columbus. She was a long time member of Grace Methodist Church in Dayton. Sandy was a graduate of Columbus North High School and received her BA degree from DePauw in 1958. Following graduation, she was married to Robert C. Sammons who had graduated in 1957. Following Bob's service in the Army, Sandy and Bob were married in 1958 at the King Ave United Methodist Church in Columbus, Ohio. Sandy was a devoted member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority while at DePauw and throughout her life remained in contact with her many friends and sorority sisters. She was also a life member of several organizations in Dayton, including PEO, Alice Hefner Guild and the Church in the Home of Grace Church. She was the long time employee of the Dayton Area Diabetes Association an arm of the Dayton United Way, and shared her life in caring for many who suffered with diabetes, a disease which she had the last 53 years of her life. Sandy is survived by her husband Bob of 58 years and daughters Leanne and Jani, son-in-law Matt Wald, grandsons Nicholas and Michael Wald, and granddaughter Kelly Swindler. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Charlotte and Dwight Swisher and her brother John. A memorial service will be held at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., Columbus, Ohio 43221, on Sunday, October 16, 2016. A reception by the family from 3pm to 5pm will be followed by a memorial service at 5pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Diabetes Association Dayton Area, 2555 S. Dixie Dr. Ste 110, Dayton, Ohio 45409.
