Known as “Bill” or “Sam,” born in Zanesville, OH, graduate of Ohio State University, veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves, and retired Certified Public Accountant. Prolific handyman and tinkerer (“I’ll either fix it or break it,” he would say).
Enjoyed spending time with family, golfing, vacations to Myrtle Beach and Florida, and boating at Buckeye Lake. Energetic and gregarious, he was generous in numerous ways, kind to all, and a true people-person. A long-time parishioner of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, his faith guided him in life.
Predeceased by mother Sadie and father Forrest Rushay, siblings Leonard, Gloria, Vernon, Verna, Cyril and Faris. Survived by wife of 60 years, Marlene, and sons Sam (Laura) and Matt, grandchildren Claire and Joseph, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 5, 2024 from 2-5 p.m. at Schoedinger East Funeral Home at 5360 E. Livingston Ave., Columbus, OH 43232. Funeral to be held on Monday May 6, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church at 1573 Elaine Rd., Columbus, OH 43227. Burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens at 5600 E. Broad St., Columbus, OH 43213.
