Russell P. Case

Russell was born in Wyandot County, Ohio, on September 24, 1922, to Charles C. and Daisy D. (Pool) Case. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Thelma Eyestone and brother-in-law John Eyestone, his son Peter Case and his first wife, Miriam Walton Case Eyestone.

On June 16, 1972, he married Erika Wild and she survives. Russell is also survived by six children: Diane (Richard) Mault; Marion, Steven (Dee) Case; Dayton, Christine (Jim) Brown; Marion, Cathi (Richy) Creviston; Prospect, Mary Ann (Vern) Higginbotham; Marysville, and Eva (Tom) Morrow of Franklin, Michigan. He was blessed with eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren. Also surviving are nephew Czerny (Susie) Eyestone, niece Sheryl (Leroy) Gohl and brother-in-law Dale (Maxine) Walton, all of Upper Sandusky.

During the course of his life, Russell prospered in many entrepreneurial endeavors. As a well-known and creative farmer, Russell was often spoken of as a “man ahead of his time.” In 1959 and 1960, on the family farm he hosted Farm-O-Rama, an exposition demonstrating the latest techniques in agriculture, horticulture, livestock, and even firefighting. Farm-O-Rama was the forerunner of the current Farm and Science Review.

Additionally, Russell operated the Walton-Case Grain elevator in Richwood, Ohio, the John Deere Implement store in Marysville, Ohio, and the Mid-Ohio Fertilizer Plant on Boundary Road. Also, for many years he was involved in the National Tractor Pulls Association with his brother-in-law, John Eyestone.

In 1976, Russell and Erika formed a tanker transportation company together hauling mostly gasoline and fuel oil, which prospered for many years in Columbus Ohio.

Russell’s ever-innovative mind and generous heart have come to rest, but he will always be remembered for his selflessness, his kindness, and his sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by so many from the people who worked for and with him to those who loved him and even to those who helped in his care during the last years of his life. He was always so thankful to those who helped him and remembering his smile and gratitude will warm our hearts whenever we think of him.

Family members will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at Schoedinger Worthington Chapel located at 6699 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio. A memorial service celebrating the life of Russell Case will be held immediately following.
