

Ronald Reid Gruber, born September 30, 1940, lost his battle with cancer on January 10, 2016. He was cared for by his family, including his incredible wife of 51 years, Carol Kutz Gruber. Ron was a lifelong Columbus native and Buckeye fan. He graduated from Columbus North High School in 1958. He went on to serve in the Ohio National Guard from 1960-1965. He worked tirelessly for his family, retiring from Zaner-Bloser Co. in 1995. He was an active member of the Prairie Township Senior Center, providing movies, and his expert euchre skills for his many friends there. He and Carol logged many miles traveling across the country, visiting 49 of the 50 United States. Along with Carol, he is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (Robert) Tatterson; and son, Steven (Laurinda) Gruber; grandsons, Alexander and Thomas Tatterson; sister, Sandy Clary (Tom Shutt); niece, Kim Clary (John Cafiero); and great nephews, Marco and Nicholas Cafiero. He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas W. and Mary E. (Lowden) Gruber. The family wishes to express our deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and aides at Mt. Carmel Hospice, and our friends at the Prairie Township Senior Center. Friends may call on Thursday, January 14, 2016 from 11:00AM-1:00PM with funeral service immediately following at 1:00PM at the SCHOEDINGER HILLTOP CHAPEL, 3030 West Broad Street Columbus, Ohio 43204. Celebrant, Mark Dettmer officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery, Galloway, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ron's memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or the Capital Area Humane Society.
