Robert Emerson Smith

Robert Emerson Smith, age 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 11, 2012. He graduated from Summit High School in 1946. Robert was the owner of Robert E. Smith Construction Company for 31 years. He was then the construction project manager for the Ohio Department of Natural resources for 11 years, including managing the construction of the Maumee Bay State Park. He was a past member of the Gahanna Lions Club and a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Gahanna. Robert enjoyed traveling and architecture.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Rosa Smith; and brother, William Smith. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lois J. Smith; children, Pamela (Ron) Howell, Diane Smith, Lisa (Matt) Murphy, and Robert E. Smith, Jr.; eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. He was blessed with many wonderful friends. Friends may call on Monday, August 13, 2012 from 2:00PM-4:00PM and 6:00PM-8:00PM at the SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL1051 E. Johnstown RD. (at Beecher RD) Gahanna. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at 10:00AM at Peace Lutheran Church, 455 Clark State Road, Gahanna, Ohio. Interment will be held privately at Headley Cemetery, Blacklick, Ohio.
