Robert C. Paxton, II ("Bob") passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024. He was born to Robert and Marcella Paxton on March 2, 1947, in Athens, Ohio. Bob was an avid Boy Scout. He became an Eagle Scout at age 12 and was named Boy Scout of the Year by Governor Rhodes for the State of Ohio in 1964 with his 51 merit badges. Bob went to Caldwell High School, President of the National Honor Society, and honorable mentor in Southeastern Ohio Football.
Following high school, Bob went to The Ohio State University where he earned a degree in English. In college, Bob was a loyal Buckeye and a member of his beloved fraternity, Phi Delta Theta. Bob earned a Varsity "O" in track and always loved talking about scoring his first point in Pole Vaulting for OSU at South Bend, Indiana against Notre Dame.
Bob was “military police” in his Vietnam days and retired as a Captain in the U.S. Army.
Bob received his Law Degree in 1972 from The Ohio State University.
Bob was diagnosed with cancer in 2021. He continued to fight his battle with the amazing doctors and nurses at the OSU Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital. Cancer didn't slow Bob down, he was a practicing attorney for 42 years throughout Central Ohio, he wrote a book called "CANCER When the Bar is Set High" to help others with valuable insights and advocacy. Bob treasured spending time with his family including his 5 siblings and 14 grandchildren and his many friends. Bob was a friend to everyone he met and was always there to help anyone in need. He was full of life and will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his siblings Ann Owen, Dan (Sandie) Paxton, John (Lisa) Paxton, Joe Paxton, and Joan (Alan) Kiene. Sandra Paxton, son, Brett (Leslie) Paxton, grandchildren Andrew, George, Charlie, and Eliza, and daughter, Jennifer (Ben) Smith, grandchildren Ashley, Riley, Matthew, Mary, Bryan, Patrick, Lily, and Henry and great grandchildren Thomas and Aubrey.
Bob wanted us to mention his special gratitude to Mrs. Lisa Pickett who helped him in his law practice more than any other. Thank you, Lisa, so much.
The family would like to thank the team of doctors at The James who cared for Bob over the past 2 weeks for their expertise and care. Calling hours will be at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST on Wednesday July 17th from 4-7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Agatha on Thursday July 18th at 10am. The burial will take place at St. Mary’s in Fulda, Ohio.
