Robert John Jones, 95, born in Columbus, OH, November 13, 1922, to Victor and Irma Marie Graf Jones. He died on January 8, 2018 at Madison House Assisted Living, London, OH. Robert "Bob" was an outgoing, loving, generous and selfless man with great artistic abilities. He graduated from East High School class of 1940 and went on to attend Columbus School of Art and Design.
Bob joined the Navy in 1943 and served as a Signalman during WWII, serving on the Roanoke and the Waterwitch until 1946. In 2007 Bob traveled to Washington DC to see the WWII memorial with Honor Flight Columbus.
In 1948 Bob started "Bob Jones Signs" and ran a successful business on the Hilltop until his retirement in 1988.
Bob joined the Hilltop Kiwanis Club in 1958 becoming a lifetime member and served as President in 1985-86. He was involved in many projects over the years but the Kiwanis renovation of the Boy Scout retreat in Lancaster and the Annual Paper Sale were most dear to him. Bob constructed the welcome to the Hilltop Kiwanis signs that still stands at East and West Broad St. In 2012 Bob was presented the Medical Mutual Outstanding Central Ohio Senior Volunteer award.
Bob wed Alma Hiser on November 10, 1990 at the Clintonville Woman's Club. Alma was born in Stoke-on-Trent England and became a naturalized citizen in 1945. Alma died in 1996 after a long battle with cancer. He stayed involved with Alma's Transatlantic Brides Club, a group of central Ohio British brides that moved to this country to wed US soldiers from WWII.
Fishing with friends, baseball, bowling and football were his passion for most of his life. Bob took up Golf in his later years and loved it until his last time on the golf greens in Dallas 2015 at age 92.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alma, mother and father Irma and Vic Jones, step mother Earline Jones, brother Charles (Jane). Bob is survived by three step-children Marilyn May (Michael), Paul Hiser and Kathryn Rasure (Ken). Other surviver's, niece's Jean (John) Salyers, Jackie (Steve) Bollinger, nephew's Charles (Nancy) Campbell, Bobby (Terry) Campbell, five step-grandchildren, Renee Hiser, Brent (Angela) Kelley, Jennifer (Mikell) Flachman, Katelyn Rasure, and Michelle Hiser, and five step-great grandchildren Jayden May, Ethan, Nathan and Abigail Flachman, and Xander Kelley.
A funeral will be held at 1 pm January 12 at Hope and Heart Funeral Home by Schoedinger, 3030 W. Broad St., Columbus, OH, visitation of friends and family will be held from 11 am to 1 pm, interment will follow at Alton Cemetery,
