Robert O. Johnson, PhD, PE, age 85 of Gahanna died peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2011 after years of declining health. He was devoted to his family and education. Graduate of University of Michigan, University of Illinois, and The Ohio State University, and post-doc Columbia University. Far-reaching career in research, engineering management and university teaching spanning over 50 years. WWII U.S. Army veteran. Retired professor. Member of Peace Lutheran Church and long-time resident of Gahanna. His hobbies included nature photography, motor sports, marathon running, long distance biking, and was an amateur radio operator. In later years, he loved traveling in his motor home. He was a 25+ year member of the Sports Car Club of America and the Porsche Club of America. He was preceded in death by his son, Dean Robert Edgar Johnson and brother, Harold Johnson. He is sadly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Hannelore Johnson, his son, Norbert “Jeff” (Becky) Johnson of Upper Arlington; daughter, Karen Lynn Johnson of Seattle, Washington; much beloved grandchildren, Serena and Alexis Johnson; and many other extended family members and dear friends. Friends may call 6-8 P.M. Thursday, September 8, 2011 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHEAST CHAPEL, 1051 E. Johnstown Rd. Gahanna, where the funeral service will be at 11:30 A.M. Friday. Rev. Dwight Hedrick, officiating. Private graveside service will be held at Acacia Park Cemetery in Beverly Hills, Michigan.
