He was born to Arthur Richardson and Helen Conn Morgan on October 7, 1928, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the third of four children. His father owned a dairy but during the Depression the family moved several times to keep ahead of the creditors. They eventually settled in Huntington where Dick spent the rest of his childhood and graduated from high school. He then attended Marshal University in Huntington pursuing a degree in Dairy Science. In his freshman year he met Gerry Stowe while playing Bridge. They began dating, fell in love and eloped in short order in 1947. They relocated to Columbus Ohio where Dick continued his studies in Dairy Science at Ohio State University but later had to discontinue them due to a growing family. Gerry gave birth to their daughter Randie Alane within a year and a second daughter, Leslie Ann followed 13 months later. Four years after Leslie, the family welcomed their first son, Richard (Rick) Arthur Morgan, Jr. and seven years following this, they welcomed their second son, Robert Alan Morgan.
Like his father, Dick too worked a variety of jobs and occasionally two at a time to support the needs of the growing family. Not surprising, a few of them also involved roles in the dairy business. When the family moved into their second house with an acre lot, Dick decided to grow his first vegetable garden. He thoroughly enjoyed this new venture and kept the garden going strong for decades. He played piano regularly for his own enjoyment all his adult life. He bought a ten-speed bike in his 50’s and fell in love with biking, continuing until he was 93. In fair weather he found time to bike daily. He always loved woodworking and his kids and grandkids reaped the benefits in wonderfully handcrafted wooden gifts and toys. In later years he and Gerry were able to do some traveling, and after retirement they enjoyed snow-birding in Florida. He was a tireless volunteer his entire life, always willing to lend a helping hand when needed. He was a wonderful, kind, and generous person who will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his younger brother Charles Morgan, his wife, all four children, their living spouses, 5 grandsons and their spouses, and 6 great grandchildren.
