Richard Deane Marang passed away peacefully on the 27th of February 2024 of natural causes at Hospice of Central Ohio at the age of 82. He was surrounded by his wife Hatsuko (Miyahira), sons John, Richard, Ronnie, and Jason Marang, as well as granddaughters Shelby Davis (Ronnie), and Brittany Marang (Ronnie).
Richard was preceded in death by his Father Theodore Edward Marang (1981), and Mother “Peggy” Violet Marang (Brown) (1978).
He is survived by wife Hatsuko Marang (Miyahira), sons John, Richard, Ronnie (Dusty), and Jason (Ashley), and many grandchildren and great grandchildren and friends.
Richard was born on the 17th of July 1941 and raised in Columbus, Ohio. He attended Central High School and went on to serve three combat tours as a United States Marine in Vietnam. Richard served as a surveyor which was an integral part of the artillery. He met his wife while rotating through Okinawa, Japan enroute to and from Vietnam. After his service in the Marine Corps in 1970, he and his wife settled down in Columbus, Ohio where they raised their four boys. While raising his family he worked during the day and went to school at Columbus Technical Institute during the evenings. This is where he earned his license as a professional surveyor. He also served in the Air Force Reserve from which he was honorably discharged in 1982.
Richard and his wife were involved in the Okinawa Tomono Kai of Columbus, where he served as a trustee for many years. He enjoyed traveling out west with his wife and always made a stop at Wall Drug South Dakota. He and his wife very much enjoyed their last trip in the spring of 2023.
He will be deeply missed by all that he touched during his life, but his memory will never fade from those who he loved and loved him.
Richard will be laid to rest in Franklin Hills Memory Gardens located in Canal Winchester, Ohio. There will not be a public viewing or grave side ceremony.
