I was the place kicker on the University of Georgia Freshman football team in 1974 . Paul was the fullback . He was a gentleman, a excellent athlete, and a gentle giant . When Paul decided to transfer to Ohio State the next Spring every player on the team knew we were loosing someone very special. No one could stop Paul . A couple years later when we found out about his great success at Ohio State no one was surprised. God bless you brother .and your family .   Cary Long

Hi papa. I miss you so much. I really need to hear your voice right now lol. I wish someone would've told me how long grief would last.. cause I didn't know it would be a lifetime. I wasn't told that you would have to live without your grandparents one day, I needed a heads up. You have 2 great grands and one on the way. I really wish you and mama could've been here for it. I love you so much, I just need a sign that you're still experiencing life with me ❤️

Paul and I played against each other in the Big Ten from 76 to 78 ...  Then, we both signed with the Dallas Cowboys... He, Ron Springs and Kelton Dansler went to Dallas the same time and I got to know all 3.. Great guys ..   I have to tell a story about Paul..  We were standing in line to get a blood test as part of the Cowboys physical..  I was standing with Paul and he was scared to death to have a needle poked in his arm...  so, it was his turn... very nervous, the nurse stuck the needle in and Paul flinched... I said out loud, there is nothing coming out ... he opened his eye wide in shock and the nurse told him he was fine...  We all laughed so hard...     Everyone was correct in what they said about Paul...  a very good guy and may God bless his family, but always understand,  you will see him again as will I ....   God Bless... I just got the news of Paul's death.  I played basketball with "Shot" at Peach County High School in Ft. Valley, GA many years ago.  My sincere condolences to his family.

I don't have alot to say because there has been a knot in my throat sence i heard paul passed away . I could'nt have asked for a better man to no than paul the size of his build doesn't compair to the size of his heart i worked with paul for about 20 yrs there wasn't a day good or bad that he and i didn't laugh together about something or be able to just share a story about our family over all these years i could not of asked for a better man for the lord to bring into my life .My heart goes out to his family and friends as we all will miss a wonderful man .thank you paul for being apart of my life.i will see you in heaven someday my friend .don coey and family

I don't have a single treasured memory of "Pops".  I have an overall feeling of being blessed to have had the chance to get to know him.  "Pops", Lynn, Rick and Lenny used to come into the Scoreboard and Rushcreek often when I worked there.  What started out as an ordinary customer interaction turned into a friendship that lasted for 22 years.  I was always struck by his gentleness and kindness.  It's hard to explain, but I always knew that he was genuinely glad to see me.  "Pops" kind of watched me grow up, get married and have kids.  He and Lynn came to my wedding along with Rick and Lenny (Pops even danced).  I will always remember the advice he would give me when he seemed to feel that I needed some.  I wouldn't specifically ask, he would just pick up on something as we spoke and offer words.  
Of course life changes things and our meetings became less frequent, but whenever I did see him, it was a genuine thrill to catch up.  
For his family and dearest friends, my family extends our most heartfelt sympathies and prayers during this very sad time. 
If the size of a palace in heaven is a reflection of the body of one's work and the size of one's heart in this life, then Paul will be living large in heaven and he will be the first to welcome us, when we arrive.  
Thank you, God for the time that you gave him to us, I can understand why you wanted him to come home.
