Nicole Bailey Friel, age 63 of Upper Arlington, passed away Tuesday, December 9, 2014. Nicole was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio and grew up in Connecticut, daughter of Dean and Marian Owen. Graduated from Ohio University, Class of 1973. Nicole worked as a teacher for 35 years and loved all children. The last twenty years have been spent with Education Service Center of Ohio where she was a preschool special education teacher at Burbank School in Upper Arlington. Nicole was a loving, generous, kind, and strong woman who had a great sense of humor. She was passionate about her family most of all. Her time spent at Martha's Vineyard growing up as a child developed her love for the beach and ocean. Through her love of that special place she taught her family to appreciate and enjoy the true beauty of the island and cherished the countless memories her family built there. She will be greatly missed by her husband of 23 years, Peter Friel; children, Chad (Jen) Abraham, Tyler (Kerry) Abraham, Elle Friel, and Charlie Friel; grandson, Bradley Friel; parents, Dean and Marian Owen; siblings, Tom (Debbie) Owen, Janie (Albie) Marques, and Carolyn (Tom) McDermott; father-in-law, L.W. (Nancy) Friel, Jr.; and many other extended family, friends, co-workers, and students. A celebration honoring Nicole's life will be held at 6 P.M. Friday, December 12, 2014 at SCHOEDINGER NORTHWEST CHAPEL, 1740 Zollinger Rd., where family will receive friends from 4 P.M. until time of service.
