Nancy Kay Prater, age 59, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2022. She was born on April 10, 1963, in Pemberville, OH to the late LeRoy and Virginia (Nehrig) Eulberg. Nancy graduated from Eastwood High School in 1981 and was voted “Most Likely to Succeed” by her classmates.
Nancy then attended Capital University and earned her degree in elementary education. In college, Nancy was heavily involved in music; she was in the wind symphony as one of only a few non-music majors, and was the primary accompanist for the Men’s Glee Club. She was a member of Pi Phi Epsilon sorority, where she made lifelong friends.
She began her teaching career with Bexley City Schools in 1985 and taught 2nd grade, 1st grade and Kindergarten. While at Montrose Elementary, Nancy served as teacher leader for a program called the “Literacy Collaborative” and was instrumental in creating a library of books just for teachers.
Nancy was passionate about music, her faith and education. She was a very active member at Christ Lutheran Church, serving as the accompanist for the high school choir for many years and involved with the contemporary worship music team. Nancy also played an integral role in the creation of libraries for several disadvantaged schools in beautiful Andros Island.
Nancy was a devoted wife, wonderful mother of three, and will be fondly remembered for her kind, gentle spirit, contagious laugh and heartwarming hugs. She was happiest teaching children, playing piano, spending time near beaches and lakes, watching the sun set, and making priceless memories at Lakeside Chautauqua and on camping trips with family and her many friends that she loved like family.
Nancy is survived by her husband of 37 years, Mark Prater, her children Benjamin Prater, Grant (Olivia) Prater, and Sara Prater, all of Bexley, as well as her brother Steve (Connie Winter) Eulberg of Meridian, Idaho and her sister Amy Jo Eulberg of Bexley.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 at Christ Lutheran Church, 2314 E. Main St. Bexley, OH 43209, where a Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday August 17, 2022.
