It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Michael “Mickey” A. Stone, 55, of Defiance, Ohio. He passed away on April 26th, 2024, after a courageous battle with metastatic urachal cancer.
Mickey was born on June 29th, 1968, to Dr. James and Jacqueline Stone in Beaufort, SC at the Naval Hospital. After Mick graduated from Defiance High School in 1986, he studied pre-dentistry at Bowling Green State University.
Mick went onto OSU Dental School to follow in his father’s footsteps. After graduating with his DDS Degree in 1994, he moved to Defiance and joined the Defiance Dental Group with his father where they practiced together for many years. Mick was a beloved member of the community and a dedicated Dentist who touched the lives of so many with his compassionate care and unwavering commitment to his patients.
Outside of his work, Mick was a devoted husband and father who cherished spending time with his family. Mick and Lorie married on August 2, 2002. They have a beautiful daughter, Victoria, who will be attending Miami University in the fall and intends to study pre-dentistry. Mickey could not have been prouder.
Mick was an elite athlete lettering in 4 high school sports (football, basketball, baseball and track), and went onto play college baseball at BGSU. He was a lifelong OSU fan and went to every single football game. He loved to watch his daughter compete in gymnastics and spent his vacations in Key West and summers at the lake.
His infectious sense of humor extended to his unusual talent for doing the splits, turning a seemingly ordinary skill into a hilarious spectacle. With a playful twinkle in his eye and a mischievous grin, Mick would often surprise and amuse those around him by effortlessly dropping into the splits at unexpected moments. His comedic timing and flair for the dramatic always left everyone in stitches. Although a bit unconventional, it was undeniably entertaining and uniquely Mickey. May his comical splits forever be remembered as a source of laughter and good cheer, a charming reminder of his fun-loving spirit and his talent for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary.
Mick retired from the Defiance Dental Group in 2017 and moved to Upper Arlington to be closer to his family. Mick planned to start his own dental practice and work alongside his father at OSU Dental School. Later that year, Mick was diagnosed with urachal cancer. He faced this challenge with a strength and grace that was nothing short of inspiring.
Mick is survived by his loving wife, Lorie Stone, and their daughter Victoria Stone. Mick is also survived by his beloved parents, Dr. James and Jacqueline Stone, his sisters Julie Berry (Matt), and Jamie Friesner (Jared), his nieces Isabella Berry, Sienna Berry, Harper Friesner, Emmalyn Friesner, nephews Aidan Berry, Jackson Friesner, his stepsons Logan (Samantha) and Eli Smith and his step grandchildren, Lainee, Parker, Tori and Nolan Smith.
Mick, you will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing you. Your memory will live on in the hearts of those whose lives you touched. Your impact will never be forgotten.
A memorial service will be held in his honor at Trinity United Methodist Church on May 8th at 1:00 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life at Scioto Country Club.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Dr. Michael A. Stone Family Bladder Cancer Research and Education Fund. Mickey and Lorie established this fund to support bladder cancer research and clinical trials for patients like him. He wanted nothing more than his suffering to not be in vain and help other cancer patients with a chance at life.
We love you Mick.
