Mary Elizabeth (Quirke) Ford, formerly of Springfield, Virginia, and Stamford, Connecticut, died March 20, 2013 at Emerald Crossings Assisted Living in Dublin, Ohio, following a lengthy illness. She was born December 27, 1920 at her parents’ home in Stamford, one of three children of the late Harry and Marcella Quirke. In 1942 she married Geoffrey R. Ford, who became a career United States Air Force officer. They were married for 36 years, until Col. Ford’s death from cancer in 1978. Mrs. Ford traveled the world with her husband and family, being stationed in numerous locations in the United States and Japan before Col. Ford’s retirement from active duty service in 1969. Thereafter, she lived in Springfield, Virginia until moving to Dublin, Ohio in 2007. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her siblings, Sarah Ellen “Babe” Durham and Harry Quirke, both of Stamford, Connecticut. She is survived by her children, Lynn Foster of Danville, Illinois, Alex Ford of Alexandria, Virginia, Pamela Lipps of Reedsville, Ohio, Paul Ford of Stafford, Virginia, and Jacklyn Ford of Dublin, Ohio; and by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Ford suffered from a serious congenital hearing loss that had a profound impact on every aspect of her life. Her first hearing aide, acquired in her mid-40’s, brought her in closer contact with the hearing world, but did not fully alleviate her hearing loss. Despite this serious disability, Mrs. Ford faced the world with considerable courage, energy, faith, and tenacity. The family requests that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Mrs. Ford’s memory to the Columbus Speech and Hearing Center, 510 E North Broadway St Columbus, OH 43214. Funeral services will be held May 10, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery. Funeral Services entrusted to Schoedinger Worthington Chapel, 6699 N. High Street, Worthington, Ohio 43085.
