Laura Lettitia Meeks, age 93, passed into the arms of the Lord on Wednesday, October 6, 2010. She was born in Columbus on January 1, 1917, to the late John and Annie (Nicklaus) Lewis, and she was a graduate of Central High School. Laura worked for 26 years as a secretary at the State House, and she was a lifelong member of Neil Avenue United Methodist Church. Laura left a legacy of love and was the cornerstone of a close Christian family. She loved to travel and took numerous family cruises and annual summer family vacations. She also enjoyed music and sang in the choir at school and church. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Justina Lewis and Frances Sellers; and brothers, John Lewis, Addison Lewis, and Bill Lewis. She is survived by her children, Lawrence “Larry” (Joy) Meeks, Waldon “Don” (Mary) Meeks Jr., John “Tom” Thomas (Sally) Meeks, Ann Meeks (Larry) Allen, and Deb Meeks (Glenn) Lees; sister, Leona Roberts; 17 grandchildren; and 27 great grandchildren. Family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010, at the SCHOEDINGER NORTH CHAPEL, 5554 Karl Road. On Monday, friends may call from 10-11 a.m., and a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Mike Szlapak (of Vineyard Church of Columbus) officiating.
